Operalia

Operalia

Shanghai

Founded in 1993 by Plácido Domingo, Operalia – The World Opera Competition is an international singing competition created to discover and support some of the most promising young voices in opera. Open to singers aged 20 to 32, it brings together artists from around the world and gives them the opportunity to perform before a jury made up of leading figures from the international opera industry.

In 2026, Operalia will take place in Shanghai, China, from October 26 to November 1. Presented by Rolex, this edition will be hosted in collaboration with the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the Shangyin Opera House.

A group of 34 young international singers has been selected to take part in the 2026 competition. Throughout the quarterfinals and semifinals, the candidates will perform a selection of operatic arias before the jury, with the most outstanding singers advancing to the final gala concert with orchestra.

Beyond the prizes themselves, Operalia is widely regarded as an important international platform for the next generation of opera singers. The competition offers young artists exceptional visibility, the opportunity to perform in front of influential professionals from the opera world, and the potential to take a significant step forward in their careers.

Iphginy in Tauride

Iphginy in Tauride

Grand Théâtre du uxembourg

Premiered in Paris in 1779, Iphigénie en Tauride crowns Gluck’s operatic reform: a tragedy purged of diversion, where music and drama form a single expressive force. The work abandons love intrigue in favour of exile, moral conflict and recognition, giving rare prominence to inner turmoil and collective destiny. At its centre stands Iphigénie, priestess and refugee, caught between ritualised violence and human loyalty. Director Wajdi Mouawad approaches the myth as a shared narrative marked by bloodshed, trauma, and inheritance, opening the opera with a newly written prologue retracing the Atrides myth. Iphigénie en Tauride speaks insistently to an age marked by displacement and inherited violence. Théotime Langlois de Swarte leads the ensemble Le Consort and the choir Les éléments in this reading driven by dramatic tension.

Cenerentola - G. Rossini

Netherland’s tour

Young Angelina lives with her stepfather, Don Magnifico, and her two stepsisters, Tisbe and Clorinda, who treat her like a servant and mockingly call her “Cenerentola” — Cinderella. When a beggar appears at their door, Angelina is the only one to show him kindness. She does not know that he is in fact Alidoro, Prince Ramiro’s adviser, who has come in disguise to discover which of the young women has the most generous heart. As Ramiro searches for a wife and the whole family begins dreaming of a royal marriage, appearances are soon put to the test.

This production of Rossini’s La Cenerentola will be presented by Nederlandse Reisopera, the largest touring opera company in the Netherlands. For nearly 70 years, the company has travelled across the country, presenting several major opera productions each season. In this new staging by Lysanne van Overbeek, Cinderella does not simply wait to be rescued: she takes her destiny into her own hands. Musically directed by Pedro Beriso, with Orkest Phion and Consensus Vocalis, the production will tour the Netherlands from 23 January to 20 February 2027.

It will also mark an important milestone for Léontine Maridat-Zimmerlin, who will make her role debut as Angelina in this production. The young French mezzo-soprano, nominated as a Révélation Artiste Lyrique at the 2026 Victoires de la Musique Classique, will take on one of the great mezzo-soprano roles of the Rossinian repertoire.

la Celemenza di Tito

la Celemenza di Tito

Limoges’ Opéra House

Léontine makes her debut at the Opéra de Limoges in the role of Annio.

Titus, Emperor of Rome, becomes the target of a plot devised by the ambitious Vitellia, who is determined to marry him.

From the age of the Caesars to the 2027 French presidential election, games of seduction and power are endlessly repeated.

Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito is a masterpiece: a work that is both dazzling and profoundly human. For this production, directors Jean-Philippe Clarac and Olivier Deloeuil reimagine Vitellia as a modern-day First Lady, all composed smiles and protocol-perfect elegance. Behind the polished public figure emerges an ambitious and manipulative fighter, but also a wounded woman in love, deeply moving in her vulnerability.

Love affairs and political negotiations intertwine through a succession of flashbacks. A way of reminding us, through the extraordinary power of Mozart’s music, that behind every man in power stands a woman.

Théâtre des Champs Elysées

Léontine will come back to the Théâtre des Champs Élysées this time to make her debut with Les Musiciens du Louvre in the roles of the High Priestess and Oenone, under the baton of Marc Minkowski.

Hippolyte et Aricie was Rameau’s first opera. Until then, he had been known above all for his harpsichord works and theoretical writings. The opera was premiered in 1733 and enjoyed considerable success, with more than 120 performances between 1733 and 1767, although the score underwent numerous revisions over the years.

Of the roughly thirty works Rameau would go on to compose for the operatic stage, Hippolyte et Aricie and the three tragedies that followed — Castor et Pollux, Dardanus and Zoroastre — established him as the true successor to Lully.
